It was Wednesday when I called him from the island of Rhodes and by Friday, I was in surgery for ascending aortic aneurysm, without even knowing it beforehand. Although the surgery was very delicate – I was on the verge of rupture – everything went smoothly.

I would like to extend my warmest thanks to Dr Gritsopoulos, not only for his outstanding scientific training, but especially for his overall approach to his patients, with compassion and empathy.
My 76-year-old father was diagnosed with left main stenosis during a routine check-up – without any prior indications. Our family cardiologist highly recommended Dr Gritsopoulos and his team as the best possible option. Indeed, when we met him, he immediately gained our trust with his sincerity and integrity of character. There was of course no doubt whatsoever regarding his expertise; his professional resume and feedback received were quite compelling.
Due to the urgent nature and extent of the damage, Dr Gritsopoulos saw to it that the surgery was scheduled immediately. My father’s surgery (double bypass) was a complete success and he had a much better recovery than expected! In August 2022, having experienced a major health problem, I was anxiously seeking a cardiac surgeon. Despite my bad luck, I was very fortunate that my cardiologist referred me to Dr. Gritsopoulos. I was urgently admitted to the Medical Center and Dr. Gritsopoulos successfully performed the double bypass surgery. During the entire post-operative recovery period, Dr. Gritsopoulos was there for me and my family and treated us with courtesy, thoughtfulness, and genuine concern. - 25th October 2021, Department of Coronary Angiography of Rio, Patras: “You are lucky to be alive”. “You should have already had surgery”.
- 27th October 2021: After a brief investigation for a heart surgeon, I visited at the Medical Center Dr. George Gritsopoulos “cardiac surgeon” with whom I discussed and agreed to be operated on the 2nd of November 2021.
- 2nd November 2021: I was successfully operated at the Medical Center.
- 3rd November 2021: I was asked in the ICU who was the surgeon who gave me the second opportunity in life to be with my beloved ones again.

My experience regarding my acquaintance with Dr. George Gritsopoulos
My many years of professional activities with the intense presence of daily stress, combined with an aggravated heredity and a mild procrastination-neglecting my regular cardiological examination, contributed to the serious heart problem that affected me.
The cardiologist I visited (unfortunately not as often as I should) explained to me that I should consider myself particularly lucky because, although the condition of my arteries was now dangerously aggravated, I had not suffered a serious episode yet. The tests I underwent showed that time was clearly working against me.
While urgently searching for a cardiac surgeon who would inspire my trust, among all the well-known doctors in Athens, Dr George Gritsopoulos, although relatively young in age, had already a remarkable career and experience in Greece as well as in England and the U.S.A. He was the one who attracted my interest.
The initial phone conversation confirmed my intuition and after my immediate meeting with him at the Psychiko Medical Center, I appreciated his scientific competence combined with his directness, kindness and sincerity.
We agreed on the immediate scheduling of surgery and, in the period leading up to my admission to the hospital, my almost daily communication with Dr. Gritsopoulos confirmed the correctness of my choice.
The operation was successfully completed and throughout the postoperative period Dr. Gritsopoulos’ presence and interest was continuous, substantial and always reassuring.
Today, 35 days after the operation, and while I am in the last stage of recovering, I feel stronger every day thanking my luck for helping me overcome the problem without any further damage. I truly express my unlimited trust and appreciation to Dr. Gritsopoulos whom I highly recommend with the certainty that his scientific competence combined with the qualities of his character such as kindness, honesty for humanity that govern him, will gain any person’s trust.
I would like to thank the Person and the Physician Dr Gritsopoulos for the way he handled our case. In September 2015, he successfully operated on my 79-year-old father and has always been and he continues to be at his side to this day. This exceptional person and doctor operated on me after I was diagnosed with multiple arterial stenosis in the heart (more than 90%), when the previous doctors I had consulted did not give me any chance due to my advanced age (85 years old). The operation was a success and I was released from the hospital a few days later. Four years have passed since then and thanks to Dr. Gritsopoulos I can enjoy my life without any problems. My dearest, dearest doctor! I consider myself very lucky to had met you at a very difficult time in my life. You gave me a new heart –of course, I do have some reservations as to whether on the “table of the operating freezer” you didn’t simply put the same heart back after 11 hours of surgery! I do have to say, however, that you helped me feel 18 years old again! I would like to thank the exceptional doctor and above all exceptional person Mr Gritsopoulos for the remarkable effort he made to keep me alive in April 2014 when, due to my own negligence, I found myself with a significant cardiac arch and ejection fraction of 33% from a total failure (90%) of the mitral valve from a tear of the muscles and incipient pulmonary edema. One Monday night, in mid-April 2014, I was urgently admitted to the Psychiko Clinic where the doctors immediately diagnosed my illness and I did all the necessary tests. On Wednesday evening, I underwent surgery despite the dangerously high cardiac arch. Under these very difficult conditions I was released from the hospital with a new valve, and I fully recovered after 10 days! I owe all the days I have lived from that day on to the person who helped me stay alive and who improved the quality of my life so that I can continue doing what I love most: gardening, shopping and cooking for my family.
Today, I am 85 years old and after 7 years I can enjoy a beautiful life.

Because I have suffered a lot not only due to health issues but also due to the way in which the doctors had handled my situations, I would like to say that health problems are an extremely difficult time for patients who need comfort and a kind, reassuring word to give them courage and strength during their time in need. When I contacted Dr. Gritsopoulos, he spoke to me as if I were his father, which is something that I will never forget. I was immediately admitted to the Cardiac Surgery Department of the Psychiko Clinic and, in two days, I underwent a double bypass. I was fortunate in my misfortunate in that I was lucky to find this exceptional person and very capable doctor at a very difficult time in my life.
